Does that squirrel REALLY need a rehabber?
As with all wild babies, squirrels do best being raised by mama in their natural environment, so if you find a baby, please make every reasonable effort to give mama a chance to reunite and take it back to the nest, but only if it's not injured.

Newborns
It is absolutely critical that eyes-closed/neonate squirrels be kept warm while you are attempting to give mama a chance to reunite with them.
Pour dry, uncooked rice in a sock and heat it in the microwave for a minute, then wrap it in a towel. Place this in a box with the babies.
You can also play squirrel distress sounds on your phone to get mama's attention. Make sure you are far enough away from the babies that your presence won't deter mama from reuniting.

Don't Feed the Babies!
Please don't ever feed an orphaned squirrel (or any other orphaned baby you may find).
Formulas available at pet stores are not what rehabbers use and often make babies sick.
Also, if you are trying to reunite mama with her babies, it is helpful if the babies get hungry, as they will cry for mama and hopefully get her attention!

Older Babies
Squirrels that have open eyes and fur do not need to be kept warm while waiting for a reunite with mama, and it is generally safe to wait for longer for the reunite to happen.
You may offer older babies water in a small dish, Cheerios, small pieces of cut up fruit or vegetables and unsalted nuts and seeds.
